MBA Admissions Consultant: The Journey
Every consultant has a story. Mine began with stories themselves. From Writing Words to Shaping Narratives (1990s – 2000s)I grew up in Mumbai in the mid-1990s: a time when print media was king, and storytelling was the only real way to stand out.
Even in school and junior college, I found myself drawn to words: writing for our school and college magazines, crafting essays that spoke less about “what happened” and more about “why it mattered.”That love for story took me further than I could’ve imagined.
By the time I entered my undergraduate years in engineering (early 2000s), I had already published opinion pieces and creative columns in The Indian Express, one of India’s most respected national newspapers. It was my first real taste of what narrative could do: how it could make strangers care about ideas they’d never lived.Business School: Understanding How Stories Move Decisions (Mid-2000s)After completing my engineering degree, I pursued a full-time MMS (Master in Management Studies): the Mumbai University equivalent of an MBA; in the mid-2000s.
That’s when I began to understand that every business pitch, brand proposal, or leadership plan is a story in disguise. The frameworks of management: strategy, marketing, consumer behavior: all depended on one core thing: how well you could tell a coherent, credible story that connects data, emotion, and intent.During my MBA years, I wrote case analyses, business articles, and campaign scripts that didn’t just summarize findings: they persuaded. This, unknowingly, became the foundation of my future as an MBA Admissions Consultant and Essay Coach.Corporate Life & Media Experience: Storytelling at Scale (2006–2016)After my MBA, I worked in marketing and management roles across corporate and media sectors: including with a major Indian media house that published the country’s second-largest English daily newspaper.
That experience was transformative. In the media world, I learned how narratives are not just told: they’re designed.
From editing internal magazines to writing leadership stories for company communications, I saw first-hand how precision, tone, and structure can make or break an idea.
Those years honed the editorial and analytical lens I now use while guiding MBA applicants on their admission essays, Statement of Purpose (SoP), and Letters of Recommendation (LoR).From Corporate Storytelling to Admissions Storycraft (2017–Present)In 2017, I made a deliberate pivot.
After years of reviewing business pitches and mentoring young professionals, I realized that what I enjoyed most was helping people express who they really are: without jargon, without pretense. That’s when I began mentoring candidates applying to business schools.
What started as helping a few colleagues and students refine their MBA Application Essays soon became a full-time pursuit: a career built on helping others tell their professional stories better.Today, I work with applicants from diverse industries: consulting, tech, finance, marketing: targeting top business schools such as:Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Columbia, MIT Sloan, Kellogg, BoothINSEAD, LBS, Oxford Saïd, Cambridge Judge, IESE, ESADEand other leading global MBA programs across the US, UK, and Europe.Over time, I also began assisting applicants to MiM, MS, and PhD programs: especially those who recognized that strong storytelling applies everywhere, not just MBA admissions. My Approach: Essays Are Not Forms: They’re StoriesThe most successful MBA applications don’t sound like résumés rewritten in paragraph form.
They sound like real people: people with clarity, curiosity, and conviction. That’s where my background in writing, media, and management merges into one.
I don’t just “edit” your essays: I help you build your personal narrative:Why you made the choices you did.How your experiences shaped your leadership style. What impact you truly want to make next.Whether it’s your MBA Application Essay, SoP, LoR, Résumé, or your Kira Video Interview, I bring a storyteller’s instinct to every sentence: ensuring your story feels structured yet human, strategic yet natural. Why This MattersIn business school admissions, story is strategy.
Your essay isn’t just about what you did: it’s about who you are and why that matters to the world you want to lead. That’s the lens I bring to every client conversation.
Because long before I became an admissions consultant, I learned the single most valuable lesson from the newsroom:“A good story doesn’t just inform: It moves!”And that’s exactly what the best MBA applications do.
